Write for us
We welcome pitches that help general readers understand a lasting question in public life. A strong proposal has a clear point, a defined scope and a reason readers will find the subject easier to follow after reading.
What to pitch
We consider explainers, comparisons, histories of ideas or institutions, and carefully framed accounts of how a public issue works. Proposals should suit one of our sections and offer a distinct angle rather than a broad tour of a large topic.
Make the case clearly
Tell us the working title, the central question, your main points and what readers will take away. Note any sources or examples you expect to use, and disclose relevant interests. Keep the pitch focused; we do not need a finished article at the proposal stage.
Sending a proposal
Send your pitch through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please include enough detail for us to understand the idea. A submission is a proposal, not a guarantee of publication, and we may suggest a different focus.
